What Mom Bought (Part 1)

“Hey girls! Hey!” Jamie called, bursting into the dolls’ room, “Look at my awesome new outfit!”

“Wow,” Kanani remarked, “Uh, that’s trendy.”

“I know, right?” Jamie said, twirling around, “Isn’t it awesome?”

Isabelle, who was petting Tutu, said, “Cool leggings! Where did you get them?”

“I think Mom received them for her birthday. It was a few days ago.” Jamie replied.

“I didn’t know it was Mom’s birthday,” Sarah said. She was playing with Isabelle’s American Girl doll.

“Neither did I,” Kanani remarked, “I wonder why she didn’t tell anyone? Why didn’t we go to her party?”

Isabelle thought for a moment, “I don’t think she had a party,” she said slowly.

“So what did she do?” Jamie asked, “A birthday without a party? How awful!”

” I think she went to the American Girl store instead,” Sarah said with a mysterious grin.

“WHAT??!!” Jamie shrieked, “Why didn’t I go?”

“Because I went instead!” Sarah said, laughing.

“Did she buy anything for me?” Isabelle asked.

“I’m not going to tell you anything.” Sarah replied.

Just then, Kaya walked into the room. “Guys! Look at my new outfit!” She was wearing the new red modern shawl outfit from her collection.

“Where did you get that?” Jamie asked, “I like it.”

“Mommy got it at the American Girl Store.” Kaya replied. She took a step sideways, making the fringe sway.

“All of these secrets!” Jamie pouted, “Did Mom get anything else?”

“I’m not saying,” Sarah replied simply.

“Ah-ha!” Jamie exclaimed, “If she hadn’t gotten anything else, you would have said no. And you didn’t!”

Kanani giggled, “Busted!” she said.

“Tell us!” Isabelle demanded, “I have to know what she bought or I will die! Well, not really, but you have to tell us!”

Suddenly, there was a knock at the door. “I’ll get it!” Kanani hopped up and ran to open it.
