Doll Drawing Update

As some of you may have remembered, one of my surprises I mentioned several weeks (or months) ago, is my doll drawing. Since I have added 2 more dolls to the family, I should probably get the drawing done. My current doll drawing only shows 6 dolls, and my doll family is now grown to a grand total of 8 dolls.

Doll drawings take a long time. I have to draw each doll to my liking and color each one. When I get a new doll, I have to redraw the entire thing. Don’t get me wrong, I love doing it, but it’s hard to create a brand when it’s constantly changing all the time. Then in all the colored areas there are little white spots from where the colored pencils did not touch the paper. It’s not optimized for online use, which is basically my whole purpose.

So I got an awesome idea.

I’ll draw each doll separately or in pairs, and upload them to the computer. Then I’ll retouch each doll, and color them in Photoshop. Finally, I’ll paste them together to make the doll drawing.

I love the efficiency of this. I won’t have to redraw each doll when I get a new one, only when I want to. The color will be optimized for use on my blog.

So far I’ve finished Kanani and I’m over halfway done with Kaya. I’ve already got Lea and my other new doll drawn as well. :) I’m not sure what outfit would be best for Jamie, but since I gave her a totally unfashionista-like outfit in my current doll drawing, I guess anything could work. ;)

I actually drew Lea first, holding her lightsaber. I drew it as a quick sketch, of how I wanted Lea to look in the real drawing. But I liked her face so much, I decided to upload it and color it in, thinking it would work. After I retouched it and coloring the entire thing in, including the painstaking job of her dress pattern, I realized though her head was the right size, the legs were too short, and her arms were too fat in comparison to my other dolls.

I still have the drawing, and thought you’d all like to see it. So here it is:

So that’s how I’ll be doing my doll drawing this year. And if you’d like a drawing of your dolls too in this fashion, you can special order a drawing at peppermintpursuits.etsy.com.

I’ll be working on my doll drawing over the next few months and I can’t wait to share it with you guys when it’s done. :)

  1. Wow! I kinda knew you could do that, but……. Wow! So How did you upload your drawings before? Lea is so cut with that look on her face! Have you ever considered doing other drawings? From other movies or things? Have you ever considered trying to like “Cartoonize” or something… like to other people? ‘Cause isn’t that what you are kinda doing when you draw your dolls right? I hope this doesn’t sound mean, but I was just wondering! You’ve done an amazing job!
p.s. So have you seen all of the Star Wars episodes? I’ve Seen 1,4,5,6,7, but, I have yet to watch 2 and 3. Oh and what are your thought on “Rouge One”?!?!?!? I was really surprised and I am a little…. well I don’t know what to think about it!
You did a great job! – Emily

    • I just uploaded them, but didn’t retouch them at all. I have considered that, it would be fun! Maybe I’ll do a few from movies over the summer. Maybe Star Wars. ;) Thank you!
I’ve seen episodes 1, 4, 5, 6, and 7. Catlover02 and I hope to watch 2 and 3 sometime soon! Rogue One was interesting, I don’t have an opinion on it yet. I guess I’ll wait and see . :)

  2. I love that Lea drawing! I love the effect that photoshop gives your drawings!! You’re so talented! I’m a rubbish drawer (is that even a word?!) but I hope to oneway learn and get half decent! ;-) can’t wait to see you’re finished drawing :D

  3. Stunning job!

    I have seen , 4, 5, 6, 7.

Based on what I heard the first three really were not that good. TFA is by far the BEST movie!!! Rogue one I am not very set on seeing. I am afraid it is gonna get a different opinion in my mind. Do you know what I mean? ;)
