Truly Me Releases August 2015 – My Thoughts

American Girl releases so many things this week. Normally AG releases the holiday dresses and winter outfits in October. I guess they had too much stock and decided to release them earlier in the year. It gives us girls more time to save our money before they are retired!

First off, the outfits:

Gorgeous Gold

This is soo cute! I love the gold. It looks stunning on that doll. The sparkles add a nice touch, and the flower bow is so gorgeous! I love the fact that the dress actually comes with a wristlet! This set is $36. I think it is worth that much. :)

Joyful Jewls

I don’t think this is worth $36 though. The material looks cheap, and I’ve never been a big fan of velvet anyway. The shoes are almost identical to Maryellen’s meet shoes. I don’t feel like this comes with much. I’m pretty sure this will be on sale at the end of the year.

Holiday Accessories

This is $32. It comes with a velvet jacket, a snowglobe, candy, a ring and a bag. The bag could easily be crushed, and the ring is so small, it would be easy to misplace it. I don’t feel like it’s worth the price.

Warm Winter Outfit

At first when I saw this, I was just like “Ew!!” but I think I’m changing my mind. The boots are funky, I love the color of the leggings. The sweater is a little strange, the way the hem is. This outfit is $30.

Sparkle Spotlight

I think this outfit is kind of boring by itself. I like the different elements, but I think they would be better off mixed with some other pieces. This is $34.

Rhythmic Gymnastics

Since I’m not into gymnastics, I don’t really care about this. It’s pretty good for all you McKenna fans! But why do they make the medal silver? Why not gold? This set is $34 too.

Playful Polar Bear Pjs

I love these! They are so cute! The colors are so festive, the polar bears are perfect. The booties look so warm. I really like this set and hope to add it to my collection! These pajamas are $24.

Again, I’m not a big fan of gymnastics, but with the Olympics approaching next year, I’m sure AG will sell a bit more gymnastic sets than usual. This 2 n 1 set is $30.

Coral outfit

I like the individual pieces, not that much altogether. If I got this outfit, sure, my dolls would wear the complete outfit, but they’d probably wear it more with other pieces from their wardrobe.

Now onto the accessories!

TV 2

I love this set! It’s a must for AG fans with a dollhouse. If I had a dollhouse, I’d probably save for this. I still might. It’s very realistic. I love the TV remote and the fact you can change the screen. I wonder if the cabinet is wood. This is $85.

I think this is pretty neat, but I’d probably never buy it. The popcorn is cute, as are the drinks and candy. It would be great if your dolls were having a carnival. The set is $48.

couch 2

I don’t know if this will sell well right now, since American Girl just released Maryellen’s couch at the same time. I like this set, it would add a pop of color to any doll’s house. The tray that sits on the edge is a little unusual, but I’m okay with it. This couch is $68.

Christmas Scene

I love this! It’s so… so… well, I can’t describe it. AG did a wonderful job building the set. That’s what I want to do when I grow up: make sets like that. I don’t know if I’ll get this. The only problem I’d have with it would be getting the lighting just right and not having a reflection. But I would just stare at this for hours if I had the time. :) This scene is $12.

And now, the new luggage sets for girls!

Starry Duffel Bag

Personally, I wouldn’t pay $54 for a duffel bag. I could just find another, cheaper one I liked better at another store.

Sleeping Bag

And $100 for a sleeping bag? That’s ridiculous. Most sleeping bags are $20 – $60.

Pencil Pouch

This zipper pouch is $16. It would be very appropriate for my pens and pencils, considering I make American Girl doll pages. I don’t know if I’ll get it… I already have two.

Garment Bag

I don’t quite see a need for this. Doll clothes are just doll clothes – they don’t need to be stored extra carefully. AG outfits, that is. I would probably never buy this for $18.

Doodle Duffel Bag

I really like the pattern on this. I love doodles! But this bag is also $54, a price I’m not willing to pay. :(

Accessories Bag

I really like the design on this bag. Pink is my favorite color! This is $48, but I don’t really think it’s worth that much.

That’s it for today! What are some of your favorite items? What do you think of the luggage line?

  1. I love the popcorn machine and the PJ’s! Super cute! I don’t think I want anything from the luggage line. It’s cute but expensive. :) Will you be saving your money up for anything new? I’m saving up for the new winter outfit. I agree with you, when I first saw it, I was like “Hmmm, this is a really weird outfit.” But now I love it!

  2. I didn’t realise AG had released some new TM items! I love the gold holiday dress on that doll. It looks so good! Also some of the outfits look great :) I’m not sure about the 2nd gymnastics set. The 2 in 1. It doesn’t look very appealing to me personally :) Thanks for sharing these items and your opinion. some of these will definitely be on my wish list =)

  3. Not crazy about the luggage. To me that color scheme isn’t special enough to warrant the price. I like the black doodle pattern though.

  4. Hmmm…the luggage line is pretty interesting. I agree that $100 is way too much to charge for a sleeping bag! Their last one was about $85 and that’s already overpriced in my opinion. I wonder how good the quality is.
The popcorn maker, gymnastics set (the one with the ribbon and hula-hoop, not the 2-in-one set) the pj’s and the holiday accessories are adorable!
It does seem pretty early to release holiday accessories, but it is nice to have more time to save up.

  5. The PJ’s and the gold/cream dress are my favorites. Not sure if I’ll get them though, I’m reaching the saturation point on clothing in both of those categories. Maybe if they go on sale later.
