Vanessa burst out into high-pitched laughter. “Um, you aren’t serious, right? Because I can think of few reasons with that plan that could go horribly wrong – besides the fact that a new doll just arrived today.”

“I know! I saw her with Jessica this morning, though Jessica referred to Winnie as her “personal hair stylist”.” Grace grumbled. “I’m always the last the know anything.”

“Ooh, maybe they were friends in an orphanage or something!” Vanessa suggested, “And Winnie was about to get kicked out to live on her own, and she called Jessica for help. Then Jessica probably asked Mom to adopt her, and now she’s going to live here!”

Grace gaped at Vanessa. “How do you know all that?”

“Meh, it’s just a guess.” Vanessa shrugged. “So what do you think happened?”

“I think you’re correct.” Grace agreed. “That’s probably what happened.”

“So what are you going to do, kick her out.” Vanessa said. “I don’t know about you, but that sounds really mean.”

“No, I’m not going to kick her out! Be reasonable.” Grace frowned at Vanessa. “I’m just want to keep Mom from adopting anymore sisters!”

Vanessa chewed her lip thoughtfully and threw up her hands in defeat. “You can’t do anything about that, really. It’s not in our control.”

“That’s what Renae said.” Grace sighed. “I just don’t know if there’s going to be enough room for all of us in Mom’s room in the near future.” She stared at the floor. “I don’t want her to give me away.”

Vanessa froze. “Given away?” She whispered softly. “Is that what you’re thinking she’s going to do?”

Grace nodded. “It’s possible.”

Vanessa stood still before she burst out laughing. “Well, if that’s not the funniest thing I’ve ever heard, I don’t know what is!” She was laughing so hard she almost couldn’t breathe.

“I’m serious!” Grace scowled, annoyed. “Mom hasn’t been doing as much with me as she used too. I’m wondering if she doesn’t like me anymore!”

“Listen, Grace. Mom would never, and I mean never, give you away.” Vanessa squeezed Grace’s shoulder “She adopted you with her own money. She’s probably busy with school and stuff.”

Grace crossed her arms. “She takes you out on photoshoots all the time, but barely me. Maybe she thinks I’m boring now.”

“Nope, again.” Vanessa assured her, “She probably just wants to take photos of me because I’m the newest. When you were new, what did she do with you?”

“She took just about a billion photos of me.” Grace begrudgingly agreed. “Ok, so maybe I’m overreacting.”

“Correcto.” Vanessa nodded. “Looks like my work here is done. I’m going to go spy on that new girl and see if she’s a possible DIA agent. See ya!”

“Wait, Vanessa..?” Grace said, tentatively. “I want to thank you for that pep-talk I needed. I was being.. self-centered, and I really do love having new sisters. Especially you.”

“Aw.. No need to get teary eyed. I’m just doing my job.” Vanessa shrugged. Then she looked a bit more serious. “But it’s good to know I’m appreciated.” Then she was gone down the hallway.

Grace smiled, took a deep breath, and hurried after her, finally ready to meet Winnie.
