Coloring Pages are Back!

Boy, that was a long break.

I haven’t made an American Girl inspired coloring page for over 6 months.

At the beginning of the year, I just didn’t feel inspired to draw Gabriela. She wasn’t my favorite GOTY, so no coloring pages were created. I felt very bored with the whole idea and I didn’t feel like anyone really liked them. I did myself, but I was getting tired of drawing in that style. I thought maybe it was time to give it up.

Making coloring pages taught SO much. By making dozens of coloring pages (I’ve saved all my originals) I learned how to draw the human body. I can’t tell you how thankful I am to have that skill. The human body can be tricky, especially since there are so many details. I’ve learned to draw feet. Proportionate legs and arms. I’ve learned a lot.

This year I’ve been focusing more on how I draw people. Not dolls in a big-headed style, but how I ACTUALLY draw them. I must say, when I drew a person in my regular, realistic drawing style this year, I might have been a little rusty. Emma from Drawn to Writing, and I went on a 30 day challenge where we draw the same character for 30 days. I, of course, picked Sabine from Star Wars Rebels, and Emma picked her OC, Rusem. We drew. And we got bored. But we still drew. I feel like that was the practice that I needed to polish up my skills and get better at them.

Lately I’ve been really into Z. I mean, really. How can you not be into a character who loves to do what you love?! She has to be my favorite character AG has come out with in a long time. It also really helps that her whole storyline and collection are super unique as well. ;) Anyway, I express what I love through drawing. So I drew Z. For fun. And I drew her in my normal style.

ZYang

I love it.

It really made me think back to when I made my first coloring page. And how far that I’ve come. It’s been what, 2-3 years? I’ve made SO much progress. Practicing gets you places.

Tenneycolored

And today I drew Tenney. :) I love her hair.

Do you see my little signature? It’s a little chocolate bar, and a “D”. And another line on the bottom to make it look cool. XD

If you want to color these yourself, I’ve converted them to black and white.

Tenney

I had a lot of fun with these, and I may be making more in the future. :)

Even if you don’t like to color (come on though, who doesn’t?!) just remember that whatever you’re trying to learn, or get better at, even if you think you’re moving at a snail’s pace, you are still moving. Sometimes it will be fast. Sometimes it will be slow. But you’re moving. So never. Stop. Practicing.

  1. THESE ARE SO GOOD, I MEAN, I LOVE THEM! Yeah, I’ve actually been practicing how to draw people. I’ve progressed! Not much, but I have. I really like Tenney. Maybe because I own her. 😊 KEEP ON DRAWING GIRL!

  2. These look great! I’ve always admired your drawing skills, and they are so inspiring. I’ve tried multiple times to recreate your doll drawing, but I’ve never matched your skill. The sketches you drew look so amazing. I bet you’ll be a professional artist someday.

  3. Yay! I love them – I’m going to print out the Z and colour it!
Though I personally prefer the old style, I’m happy that you’ve gotten better…and those drawing challenges sound fun! I wish someone would do one with me hint hint…

  4. I just want to see your sabine pictures. :P but if you don’t want to share them, i understand :)

  5. You have come so far in drawing and you were good when you first started!
So encouraging what you said about practicing and moving somewhere no matter how slowly it is. You do arrive eventually. If you persist, you achieve. ~Your Friend

  6. These are so amazing! We wish we could draw like that. We need practice. A lot of it. We love the Tenney picture! Maybe we need to get her now because of this drawing! Keep up the good work!
