New Truly Me Meet Outfit and Packaging

Guess what was just leaked?

The Truly Me meet outfit and packaging? How’d you know? XD

Anyway, Instagram user, @Historic_ag_dolls found the doll, Truly Me #13 in the new Truly Me meet dress and jacket packaged in the new box design. These designs are set to launch in June release (next month).

My thoughts:

The new line is going to have Permapanties.

You all probably know that I’m not a fan of this packaging as well, but what I am really disappointed in is the shoes.

The shoes are molded plastic. Like Our Generation shoes. 😕

Here you can see the details of the shoes. They are made of white molded plastic, and it looks like a clear glittery substance was painted on.

Here’s the new shoe next to an earlier version of the sparkle sneaker. The older shoe had glitter in the fabric, a rubbery sole, and binding around the front part. Definitely better quality.

I know a lot of people are saying the permanties and the downgrade in quality are not that big of a deal. True, the dolls do matter. But they also expensive. If I am going to be paying $115 for a doll, I want it to well made.

American Girl is cutting corners with the quality of their products. I am going to be buying less and less of their outfits. I’d rather buy their accessories and buy clothing from the Etsy shop, Elite Doll World.

What are your thoughts?

  1. i love the outfit! other than the permapanties and shoes, i think it’s really cute. but… those shoes! what? how? why in the world would they do something like this? and they’re still charging the same amount per doll? this is horrendous! ag, what are you doing?!

  2. A first when I looked at the jacket, I was like, “well, this is cute!” Then I saw the shoes. That is really stincky, they have to make them plastic. 😕 And the box is really bad too. That’s it I’m going to write a letter to them. Protest. But I’m not going to be mean about, cause like you said in one of your posts, it doesn’t help.

    Thanks for sharing!

  3. Oh no…..! That outfit looks awful in my opinion. You are right about their quality issues ;) I quit buying from AG since their quality is downsizing and the prices are getting higher.

    • Maybe I will start buying form your esty shop..? Your outfits are good quality and worth it, right? (sorry, I cannot access esty right now.)

excuse my English, if it might be wrong, I am french

      • Aww! I believe they are, but if you aren’t sure, you can always read the reviews in our shop! :) They’re written by customers who have purchased from us.
You’re fine! I’m flattered you read my blog, even though English is your second language. <3

  4. I like the outfit (minus the ugly plastic shoes) but I prefer the older boxes. This packaging looks almost identical to the cheap My Life as dolls you can get at Walmart. :(

  5. Got a Felicity and a Tenney online this year, but had to give both of them away because of the shiny lip paint and the thinner, shinier wigs, even though they didn’t have perma panties (or I wouldn’t have bought them.) I have been a big customer since 2011, and have gifted many dolls and outfits to various children and to charities, because I used to think American Girl such a special product. I think the rot started with the changeover from Historic dolls to BeForever and Just Like Me to Truly Me. Since then the eyes have become smaller-looking (shorter eyelashes), the wigs thinner, the vinyl squishier, the bodycloth thinner, the pants stuck on and the clothes made of cheaper material, not to mention the packaging. Such a shame.

  6. Ugh. The outfit is cute, but I have heard that even the quality in their doll clothing is going downhill. Plastic shoes are definitely not on our wish list. :( We are also not interested in permanent underwear. I think that we will be looking at eBay for most of our doll purchases from now on. It’s just too bad, because what made AG special in the first place seems to be going right out the window these days it seems. :(

  7. I think the new outfit is pretty cute! I actually posted a little about this on my blog, AG’s Wondrous World. I don’t care that the dolls are going to get permapanties. I mean, it’s just underwear. But that’s just my opinion. ;)

  8. The new meet is okay, but the shoes, packaging, and perma-panties are AWFUL. I’m sad that I’m not buying any more dolls from them.

  9. Eeeek, what are they thinking with those shoes??? Just another reason to avoid their products. I just don’t understand what they are trying to do to their company. I’m with you on purchasing clothing primarily from Etsy sellers, there are some really talented folks out there, yourself included.

  10. I like the dress and might purchase that of eBay. Maybe. That being said, it’s really too bad that AG thinks they can reduce the quality without negative consequences. I just hope they return to their quality base before it is too late. :-(

  11. I agree, even if AG is from the same brand as barbie, doesn’t mean they can use the same materials needed to make barbies. Why? Because an average barbie costs $9.99 and average AG dolls cost $115. A simple barbie outfit costs $9.99 while an AG one (is starting to) costs $28. If they’re gonna lower the quality, then don’t raise the prices…

  12. I really like the new meet outfit. The dress and jacket are very cute. I cannot believe that American Girl has so lowered their standard that they are using molded plastic for their shoes!!!!

  14. That outfit is so pretty, so fresh and cute :) And yes, the shoes are not looking high quality… But at least American Girl is changing back to the normal underwear! :D So I can forgive the shoes :P Great post :)

  15. I like the outfit with the exception of the shoes. Those are kind of lame. I don’t mind a redo of a previous style, but the differences are huge. Unfortunately, this has been happening for a long time. The shoes Melody came with and her first pair of AG sneakers are heads and shoulders above the quality of even the first sparkly sneaker in you photo. Miles above the current quality.

  16. The actual outfit looks so much better than the last one. The purple dress looks like something only a six year old would wear, IMO. Those shoes though… here’s the only accurate way to describe my feelings about the downgrade: 😐😣😥😛😴😖😲😔😓😱😤😵
