Long time, no see! Well, it’s only been what, 5 days? I just wanted to take a short break. :) I had a lot of school and things going on, and I also start my first college class next week, so I don’t know how much I’ll be posting. :)
After I finished my huge coloring page release, I realized that it had been a long time since I drew just for fun. I hadn’t copied anyone else’s drawings or drew movie characters for like, months. So I took a break from making coloring pages and drew some fun Star Wars drawings. I just watched the first 3 original movies and I LOVE them. :) I really want to see the Force Awakens sometime. I watched the trailer for it today for the first time. :)
This is my version of a drawing by Jeffery Brown. He has cute Star Wars picture/comic books. :) The kids are a little out of proportion, compared to Darth Vader, but I’m pleased with how cute they look, especially Luke. :)
This is also one originally by Jeffery Brown. I had a lot of fun drawing Darth Vader’s cape with all the swooping lines. :) Isn’t Leia adorable?
This one I just drew for fun. I’m not super happy with how the characters look, but I just thought I’d share it. :)
Okay, off the topic of Star Wars, and onto sewing!
This is a peplum top I just finished yesterday. I got the fabric from my mom for Christmas and it matches Lea’s collection pretty well! I used a pattern by Liberty Jane via Pixie Faire. It was free a couple weeks ago. :)
The top has a sweetheart neckline. I had to sew it 3 times to get it right. The 3rd time, I drew it out so I would sew along the lines. It’s still a little off, but I decided to go with it.
The shirt is supposed to close with a zipper in the pattern, but I used Velcro. :)
This is how it looks inside. I tried to use Velcro with an adhesive backing once… It didn’t turn out too pretty. It gunked up my needle. This worked a lot better, but it’s still pretty thick. Hobby Lobby didn’t have any of the thinner kind that you sew on. But the Velcro I have works!
The shirt also has a lining, which adds quality.
The reason I’m not going to sell this is because when I was turning the shirt inside out after sewing the lining, I had to pull the back part through the sleeve. I didn’t know where I was pulling and because I clipped the corner to short, some of the threads popped out. Oh well, at least I learned my lesson! ;)
I also sewed this skirt around Thanksgiving. I just didn’t get around to posting about it. I used an American Girl simplicity pattern that my friend gave to me (Thank you Queen Lucy!). I used tissue knit, which I learned is a little tricky to control because it’s so thin. I really like the pattern though!
I had a little trouble with the hem; the fabric kept moving around, and sometimes the needle would bring the fabric into the machine and I’d have to pull it out. I need to find some thicker knit.
The skirt is a little long, and reaches the floor. When I make it again, I will be altering it a little bit.
The pattern called for elastic with 1/2 inch width, but I only had 1/4 so I altered it the casing. Maybe that’s why the skirt is so long.
This last picture is of the side seam.
Oh wait! It seems that we have one more picture:

So cute! I love the way your Star Wars characters look! That shirt is so cute!! Honestly I can’t see anything wrong with it… (Also, college classes? I, for some reason, pictured you to be about 14. :))
Can’t 14-year-olds take college classes too? ;)
I love the skirt! :)

Love the two skirts you made!! So cute! ;)
I just watched the original 3 Star Wars also!!! I loved them! Star wars the force awakens it pretty good too you should definitely watch it!!! You did an amazing job on your star wars drawings!!
Great sewing projects. I know knit fabric can be tricky to sew with. A friend pro seamstress told me to use paper under the edge of fabric so the feed dogs don’t eat the fabric. Also, I use standard velcro but cut it in half vertically to make it narrower. I use a zig zag stitch to attach it.
Thanks for the tips Linda! I’ll have to try sewing knits with paper sometime. :)
Omg! Okay, those Star Wars drawings are so funny and adorable!
And that little top is so pretty, and I am so excited that you have that skirt
In your etsy shop, I just may buy it!!!
Thank you Avapluscleo! :)
